Hello! I’m Angela. Founding Director of avec Productions, Inc.
After earning my Bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston’s Department of Theatre and Dance, I relocated to Chicago in 2017 to join the company at Joel Hall Dancers & Center.
My life in Chicago expanded my understanding of how members of the LGBTQIA+, Black, Latin, Asian and Indigenous communities were positioned in American dance history.
How I chose to position myself and what relationship I had with dance led me to explore professional roles in the arts in other parts of the country.
As Special Events Coordinator for Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and later as Donor Relations Manager for American Ballet Theatre, the responsibility I carried working inside the flawed industry of the performing arts drove me out of what started to feel like “big dance.”
Attempting to reconnect to what dance meant to me (community, a practice of showing up, the celebration of diversity and shared joy), I started avec Productions, Inc. a few months before moving out of Brooklyn and back to...
